Why Wait

The other day, I was speaking to someone about an issue in my life. This issue was outstanding and I had planned to finalize it in a couple of days. I said to my friend "I will be happy when this is finished".

A bit later I was driving and this conversation came back to mind and I thought why wait. Why do I have to wait to be happy? Why do I have to wait until that particular issue was resolved until I was happy? Why do I have to put a time schedule on my happiness? Why do I have to put conditions on my happiness? I couldn't find a good answer to these questions. I don't have to have conditions on my happiness. I don't have to have time schedules on my happiness.

We say these things so unassumingly and don't even realize what we do to ourselves. Acting this way I can see that there is always something that will be in the way of my peace or happiness. Now that I have this realization, my happiness is not subject to anything, but my current choice. I can be happy with no conditions. I can have happiness right now, why wait.

Thank You

  1. Why wait to be happy? If you asked me the same question a few years ago I might have said: I am studying, working, caring for loved ones, etc. Your post hit me in the middle of the forehead. Like a jolt of light between my eyes. Indeed, why wait to be happy? Happy is now.
